Snoring is actually a heavy hoarse sound which a person produces when he breathes while sleeping. A person experiencing severe snoring during sleep must not regard it as a minor problem because it can actually be an indicator of some bigger muddle inside the body. People who are used to smoking also have a tendency to snore while they sleep because chemicals in the cigarettes and cigars are irritants, which affect the throat and obstruct the airflow in the thoracic region and thus result in heavy snores. So it is better to stop smoking as it will also keep you off other respiratory diseases.

Alcohol also causes snoring. With the intake of alcohol, all muscles become loose and relaxed due to various substances present in it. As a result the tongue and throat muscles roll back and block the airway, causing a person to snore.

Often people eat late at night, and food which gets stuck in the diaphragm passage and results in snoring. One must take care that there should be ample time lag between dinner and bed time, as it will not only reduce the possibility snoring but will also cut down on your growing body weight which is also one of the reasons for snoring.

Milk stimulates mucus formulation in the body which blocks the respiratory passage to produce heavy and hoarse snores. Mucus also narrows the breathing passage and causes breathing problems. So avoid taking milk, especially at night to reduce snoring. However, if you wish to have milk then make sure it is either lukewarm or hot.

Research has proved that honey intake can clear respiratory passage which will in turn help stop snoring. Try to take honey with hot tea or coffee for quick results.

If you wish to stop snoring, opt for any of the ways discussed. Snoring should not be taken lightly, and a doctor should be consulted in case of chronic snoring.
